Here it is September 21st and I still (still) don’t have my TV back from the shop! It’s been months now. And, while I’m not the biggest television fan that ever walked the planet, I do love my “Dancing With the Stars!”

Most of the time, I’ve been the one saying, “Could you turn that down?” or “Can we turn that off?” And suggest a TV for the bedroom? Forget it.

When this show first came on the air, I was all over this thing! Hubby was… “eh!” That said, I know how to keep silent and hold my tongue till I need to haul out the “ammo.” So I said to Hubby, “Dancing With the Stars” is sort of my football game, my soccer moment, my tennis championship. And I don’t want to watch it alone…. It’s payback time. Remember me removing the kids from the house so you could watch your sporting events in silence? You wanted silence and now I want your company. Time to suck it up…. Pleeeeeease?”

And I did the “wife face,” which is pathetic to resort to that, but I was desperate to do this together. Plus, I have been known to cheat. And, when necessary, I cheat dirty… happens rarely, but there it is. He relented.

Dancing. Let’s be clear. This is very athletic. Many an athlete has suffered an injury on this show and gone on to say, “Dancing is hard work! Not for wussies.”

I love the serious, well thought out, intelligent movement… the bodies moving together in a way that looks like magic. I love the rhythm… powerful musical athletes in the rhythm, as these dancers make that rhythm into something more than just crossing the floor to music. I love the showmanship, which allows you, the audience, to participate in what is happening… this oneness in sharing and receiving the performance is great fun. It takes immense strength and skill to be a good dancer.

Dancing With the Stars (DWTS) takes people out of the different lives they lead, and pairs them with serious professional dancers. They compete and only one is left standing… the bodies of the contestants change for the better (healthier, leaner, more powerful)… and they all grow as dancers both mentally and physically.

Dang! I love this stuff. Anything that can take music and improve your life through it, is a good thing. In addition, the movement is so beautiful to watch.

So back to the present and here I am with no TV. What will I do? I asked myself that all day. Should I suck it up and watch on the seriously small screen… the reject TV that has more problems than a twenty-year patient on a psychiatrist’s couch? Or do I punt and go swim off my frustration in the local pool? Well, dang! I’m a fan! So I watched!

Tonight we saw only the men contestants. My money is on Donnie Osmond and the “Kung Fu Guy.” And by the way, the Kung Fu guy has a very beautiful body and moves very well. (Sometimes the contestants come from walks of life where movement like dance is not something to which they’ve ever had to relate.) I actually found myself considering martial arts after watching him move. I do yoga, but the stuff that this guy can do with his body is nothing short of incredible. It will be interesting to see his growth as the show continues over the next few weeks. As amazing as he is, he is going to grow and become better.

Hopefully I will have a TV screen bigger than a thumbnail next week to watch my favorite show. One can only hope.

May your evening be full of magic on the dance floor of your mind!

Best… Carolyn Thomas Temple
